PCSCI — Prostate Cancer Support Circle India

Supporting someone

Supporting someone through prostate cancer is its own kind of hard. Looking after them starts with not having to do it all alone — you matter here too.

What to focus on first

You can help most by listening, keeping track of appointments and questions, and looking after yourself as well. You cannot pour from an empty cup.

Steps you can take now

  1. Take someone with you to appointments — a second person hears what you might miss.
  2. Write your questions down before you go, and take notes during.
  3. Ask for copies of your test results and reports, and keep them in one place.
  4. You are allowed to ask for time to think, and to ask for a second opinion.

A practical checklist

Printable checklists to take to your appointments are being prepared.

Questions to ask your doctor

  • What does this mean, in plain language?
  • What are my options, and which do you recommend for me — and why?
  • What are the benefits and risks of each option?
  • What is this likely to cost, and what financial support is available?
  • Who do I contact if I have a question later?

There is a seat for you.

You do not have to face this alone, or in silence. Talk to men and families who have been where you are.
